Irish Dance

Join centuries of tradition, discipline and passion with Irish Dance at The Dance Lab.

Made wildly popular by shows like Riverdance, Irish Dance combines athleticism with artistry to produce the most intricate rhythms in the world. Within the genre, the two disciplines of soft-shoe and hard-shoe develop a dancer’s core strength, flexibility & stamina. Students quickly get fit while rousing Celtic music propels them to develop their endurance in the studio and on-stage. Irish dance is Vancouver Dance Lab’s primary specialty and provides our students with the fitness, dexterity, and stamina to tackle complicated performance choreography in any dance discipline.

Low-Impact Irish Dance

Looking for all of the above but nursing an injury or sore joints?

 

Try our low-intensity Irish Dance program. With similarities to Sean Nos (old-style Irish dance), the low-intensity program employs the same rhythms, footwork and timing of Irish dance, but with less impact. Limited hopping/jumping keeps joints happy while allowing dancers to enjoy the benefits of improved balance & core stability. Cardio fitness is still challenged without being overwhelmed & dancers leave full of the endorphins of a good workout without suffering soreness the next day. Especially beneficial for those 55+ who love Celtic music, rhythms and dancing but aren’t sure they can participate in the high-intensity Irish dance program.

Tap Dance

Tap dancers think in rhythm and speak with their feet.

Combining fun, creativity and freedom of expression, Tap dance makes students smile, laugh and feel on top of the world. Accessible to all body types and ages, tap dance develops balance, stability and coordination. An amazing mental exercise, it challenges the brain with fascinating rhythms & melodies, developing musicality and timing. At Vancouver Dance Lab, we specialize in breaking down tap basics, giving you fine-tuned advice on how to finally execute your fundamentals like a pro. We then top you up with modern, fun choreography you can focus on and perfect.

Vancouver Dance Lab’s Creative Beats program combines the freedom and creativity of Tap with the athleticism and virtuosic footwork of Irish. But that’s just a start, add elements of Body Percussion, Flamenco, percussive props and you now have a dance form that transcends genres and styles for the ultimate in rhythmic expression. Ideal for dancers with 2+ years of experience in one of the above styles, the Creative Beats program will propel you to the next level in your craft. This performance-based style breaks you free of habits, limitations and muscle-memory so that all rhythms and movements are at your command.
